Beautiful Internal Fireplace using Fruitland’s Schist Stone

This beautiful stone detailed internal fireplace was put together by Josh O’Connor a stonemason from Stone Creations in Auckland (of which he owns).

A tight stacked stone style was used to create this look with the guillotine 180mm cut fruit lands schist stone cladding from Central Otago.

The Fruitland’s Schist Stone that was used is recessed/raked which has the mortar gently brushed out of the joints, this gives the fireplace more shadow and texture.

In this order Josh was after a bag of stack stone (used for the body of the fireplace) and corner stones which are cut at right angles that allowed for the edge pieces of the fireplace.

This is a fine example of what an experience stonemason can do with the stone provided by Alexandra Stone.

The client was wanting some blends of greys and brown tones schist stone from Central Otago for his cladding on a residential building in Ashburton.

We supplied our Fruitland's Schist Stone, which is the perfect fit with the cedar.

The Stonemason, Murray Wagstaff has been doing an exceptional job on this project. Using a tight stacked stone style.

Here is a sneak peek at the progress of this excellent stonework.

David Packman from Southern Stonemasons Canterbury Ltd, purchased direct from our Fruitlands Schist Stone Quarry in the heart of Central Otago, New Zealand our Lightweight 40mm Schist Veneer cladding for a project in Christchurch.

His client had purchased a new home but didn’t like the decorative block.  They used the Fruitlands Lightweight 40mm Veneer Cladding to hide the blocks.

Where restriction in weight and height prohibit the use of guillotine cut 180mm schist stone we can cut an individual stone to a lightweight 40mm schist veneer by using a diamond saw to cut the face of the stone.

We can cut “L” shaped corners and flats.

Our Lightweight Schist Veneer can be fitted to many substrates.  It can be installed either very closely or spaced out and filled with mortar.

The warmer tones look fantastic with the cedar timber - the end result looks outstanding!

Well done David Packman from Southern

Stonemasons Canterbury and your team of stonemasons.
